The household gods accompanied Ulrica throughout her life. She first shaped them in clay long before she began working with glass. Back then they were larger and often black. But when she chose to devote herself fully to glass, she also let in light and joie de vivre in a new way. Over the years, a large family of household gods has grown, valued not least among our many collectors of Ulrica's art. Staffan Bengtsson (who followed Ulrica through the years in books, exhibitions and TV films) says that she regarded her household gods as pets, which she liked to surround herself with in the studio while she worked., The artist's work is often lonely, but to ease the loneliness she made the figures and placed some everywhere near her. With the help of the radio and these figures, the days became shorter. She herself called them 'affectionate forest gods'. I believe they gave her a form of protection against the world's evil and stupidity, says Staffan Bengtsson. Household God, 2023, is produced in a signed edition of 300 pieces.
