Facts

The classes in EN ISO 20471

The class depends on how much fluorescent fabric and reflective material the garment has.

Class 1
At least 0.14 m² fluorescent and 0.10 m² reflective. For low risk.
Class 2
At least 0.50 m² fluorescent and 0.13 m² reflective. A common minimum requirement from construction clients.
Class 3
At least 0.80 m² fluorescent and 0.20 m² reflective. The requirement for work on and beside public roads.
Reflective tape
At least 50 mm wide and visible all the way round.
Logo
Where the manufacturer allows it, so the fluorescent and reflective area does not fall below the requirement.

Questions

Questions we often get

Which class do we need?

On public roads the Norwegian Public Roads Administration requires class 3 (handbook N301). Elsewhere the risk assessment or the construction client decides, and class 2 is a common minimum on building sites. If you are unsure, ask us.

Can we have a logo on hi-vis clothing?

Yes. The logo goes where the manufacturer allows it, so the garment keeps its class. We show you the placement in a proof before production starts.

Can two garments together reach class 3?

Yes. A class 2 jacket and class 2 trousers can together reach class 3 when the manufacturer has tested them as a set. Check the labelling in the garments.

How do we order?

Choose garments in the catalogue or in the studio and add your logo, or request a quote with quantities, sizes and class. You will usually get a quote within 24 hours on weekdays.
